So, believe me when I say there is a place for everyone.
Hope this helped you at least narrow it all down.
Hope that helps you all!
I've never thought of all these writing groups as a sort of choose your own adventure. I'm a long-time member of the League of Canadian Poets, and a recent join-ee of TWUC (The Writers Union of Canada) which, btw, is not just for prosistas- they take poets too.) Some of the advantages of joining these groups are
ReplyDelete1. Insurance -- you can get group rates, and as writers are usually self-employed, this can be really important, and
2. lobbying -- they work for your rights as a writer, which are often trampled upon by the commercial interests such as booksellers and publishers.
I should have figured the Writers Union of Canada wouldn't turn poets away. Any idea if there's an editing option so I could switch it around to include poets?
DeleteThe advantages are true- every site for the groups I checked always stated that they were there to represent their members. Having more people behind you does give you more power then just yourself. The support network is important.
I used a choose-you-own-adventure style because there were so many groups that its good to narrow things down then investigate the groups from there.
